Energy Independent Communities is a voluntary agreement between the state and communities that adopt the Wisconsin 25x25 goals.

Energy Independence is a visionary mission for Wisconsin. A community partnership is an excellent way to energize a shared 25x25 goal statewide. Community activities will foster innovation - each community will utilize a different strategy that will capitalize on the diversity of their renewable energy sources and emerging technology. EI Community partnerships will move the energy independence message of hope and opportunity to Wisconsin residents who choose to be part of this vision.

The EIC Partnership Overview explains the benefits of the Energy Independent Communities Partnership and levels of recognition. If your community is interested, please review, complete, and return the EIC Partnership Statement of Commitment.

Currently, there are over 70 EI Communities in the State of Wisconsin.  Most are partners, and have passed the 25x25 resolution.  Other communities are working hard toward passing the 25x25 resolution.  The Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence is very pleased with all of the hard work that is being spearheaded by our county chairs, county executives, mayors, village presidents, tribes, and town chairs.

The EIC Powerpoint is an excellent resource to learn more about how the Energy Independent Communities Partnership was developed and how it relates to other tools and programs currently available.

**NEWS -- Governor Doyle Awards $400,000 to Energy Independent Communities for “25x25” Plans

Governor Doyle announced for the first time in our state's history the opportunity for a grant to complete a 25x25 Plan.  It was a chance for local leaders around the state to remain focused on a community-based energy independence solution.  Governor Doyle has directed the state's energy office, the Wisconsin Office of Energy Independence to provide up to $500,000 for the State of Wisconsin's first 5-10 pilot EI Communities. The evaluation process is complete; please click on the link above to discover the communities that have been awarded.
